I was in Wimbledon yesterday for an event celebrating the publication of new editions of the original Wombles books - and there was a special guest...Great Uncle Bulgaria was an instant hit, not just with those of a certain age (like, ahem, me) who remember the original Wombles, but also with children who weren't born then, or even in the 1990s when they made their TV comeback. One little girl in particular wrapped her arms round her newest, furriest friend and just didn't want to let go... There was a book reading, puppet making, story writing and even a Wombles-themed cake. Lovely!
